Little Red Chair

This is a little, old chair that we have had on our minuscule front porch forever. It is cute and tiny, but dull and bland.  So I thought that our front door needed a pop of color.

So I painted it red!

I'm so glad I did! Since I took this picture I have added some fall decor and it looks great with the red. I'll show you some pictures of that later. But this is what it looked like right after.

         Make sure you go explore these fun sites for more fun finds, projects and makeovers.

The Quite Man

What do you get when a hot, red head plays the leading lady and a true, man's man plays the romantic lead?
Two Oscars and Eight nominations! That's what!
One of the first movies actually to be filmed on-site and not on a Hollywood set, John Ford's The Quite Man was not a wanted project by the Movie Giants. He had to cut a deal to make a John Wayne Western first and then was given the financing to make The Quiet Man. It was a huge success, the audiences and critics loved it!
Set in western Ireland and centered in the village of Cong, Technicolor never looked better!
John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara are a great movie match.
Lots of on-screen chemistry here. John Wayne made it a habit of working with actors that he liked. They made several movies together where they were a couple.

Lots of sweet cottages and beautiful Irish scenery.
A must see for the true romantic. I watched this AGAIN and I have to add it

to my list of favs!

I hope you like it to!

Happy Anniversary

(the H was our wedding topper and the flowers were his boutonniere)

This is my "dairy slab".
I have wanted one FOREVER! But to find a real one is... well, impossible! And if you do, it is literally thousands of dollars.

My husband, who I married 6 years ago today, knew that I wanted one. So for Mother's Day this year, that sweet man had this made. Can you believe that? He actually contracted a potter to make it for me.

I tell him I love him about 10 times a day. Probably too many times. But how many days go by that I don't tell him that I know that I am the luckiest woman in the world to have him? I was not always this blessed. I have a habit of taking his generous spirit for granted. I feel safe to assume he will always be here for me. He makes me feel that it is okay to be that comfortable.

I love you honey! I would marry you again in a heartbeat.
I am THE luckiest woman in the world to have you!
Thank you for everything you do and say!

Happy Anniversary!

I'm joining Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for A Cloche Party!

Yet ANOTHER New Coffee Maker!

How long does your coffee maker last? It seems like if we get 18 months we're doing great! Have they stopped making them to last? My parents have an old Mr. Coffee that is something like 10 years old! And they are MAJOR coffee drinkers. Anyway! We have a new Cuisinart. So far, I am happy with it. I like the 10 cup thermal carafe (which we had, before but was only 8cups) You don't have to worry about the coffee staying hot for hours.

A new coffee maker justifies a new coffee cup. Yes?
I picked this one up at Anthropologie.

Join me for a piece of fake cake (I'm still on my diet) and a fine cup of coffee?

I'm joining the charming Marty for Table Top Tuesday

And Now It's Blue

This wasn't the only thing that I got done this weekend. I got some other painting done, went shopping, cleaned the house, pruned the roses, weeded the garden, got my nails done, went to church, and now... well I'm getting settled in for Mad Men! Love that show!

Have a great week!

Portion Control!

For a penny you get 2 or 3 peanut M&M's. Do you even get any calories out of that?

I think that I'm going to paint it black.... What do you think?

It isn't really old. But I saw it and it was a really good deal.

I had to bring it home!

Prone to Bling!

(If you would like to have this image, you may have it!)

I hope you are having a rich cup of coffee and a yummy breakfast!

Just think! We still have another day of weekend. WOOHOO! Thank you Labor Day!

As you enjoy your weekend, ponder this...

God made you the way you are. If you love pretty shiny things, it's because The Lord gave you that gift. An appreciation of beauty. Don't abuse the gift, but love it and Thank Him!

Have a great Sunday!

Just Messing Around!

My Husband! sigh! He's a Keeper!

My birthday is not for another month and a half. But, because he has the gift of giving and I have the gift of receiving (he he he) ... The receiving has already started!
One of the things that I have been wanting is a tripod. Low and behold when I came home for lunch on Thursday...
THERE IT WAS!
SURPRISE!

So, today, I have been messing around with it and learning all the
advantages of having awesome tools.
Thank you, Honey!

(Marcy Black Simpson is the photographer that took this lovely cover picture)

Did you guys just love the cover of the last Victoria Magazine? Well! I did! So much so that I set up a little vignette in my dinning room to try and "recreate" the moment. Below is my best effort.

It just reminds me of tea on a summer afternoon.

I even loved the little basket full of cherries so much that I put it under my cloche in the kitchen area. I do get carried away with themes. (LOL)

Oh! The fun we have in Blogland!

Speaking of fun and Blogland...BIG thank yous to everyone that joined in Fresh-Cut Friday! I loved going to visit every single beautiful post. Did anyone else notice how pretty all of the thumbnails looked on the page? What fun!

If you missed out, don't fret! I will be hosting it again every first Friday of the month. So there will be lots of opportunity to buy flowers and take pictures. The next one will be October 1st.

Thanks for popping by on the holiday weekend!

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Well! We've had 2 months to read 800 pages of Russian Romance.....

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."

That has to be one of the best opening lines of a book!

This is going to be one of the few books that I re-read. Along with any of the Jane Austen novels, it is in my top (whatever number) of books that I love. It is 800 pages, but every page is needed to tell the story of a not so complicated circle of Russian aristocrats.

If you love a romance, this is the ultimate Romance Novel.

If you have read Anna Karenina, please let me know what you thought!

~~~~~*~~~~~
If you are more of a movie person, there are several different versions.
How about Sean Connery as the dashing Russian Officer Vronski?
This movie was just found in the offices of BBC several years ago... It was long thought to be gone. This was a role that Mr. Connery played before his brake through role in as Agent 007, Bond, James Bond! He got rave reviews. I can't waite to see this. I have ordered it from Amazon. I'll let you know if it is good or not! (are you kidding me, with Sean Connery?)
~~~~~*~~~~~

Another older version...

Greta Garbo as Anna Karenina in 1935... Oh, I bet this is good!

~~~~~*~~~~~
A 1948 version stared Vivien Leigh as Anna Karenina.
Some critics say this is Miss Leigh's best role.
In September Vivien Leigh is the Star of the Month at Turner Classic Movies.... check your listings, but the TCM website says that it will air Tuesday, September 28,2010 10:00 PM
~~~~~*~~~~~

A 1997 version, staring Sophia Marceau and Sean Bean, which I believe was made in Germany. I have not been able to find it on DVD for US format.

I have not seen this, but I have heard that the acting is not excellent but adequate. However, the sets, costuming and cinematography are extraordinary! I would love to see it.

Stunning! Right?

Our next book...

A Soft Place to Land By Susan Rebecca White

For more than ten years, Naomi and Phil Harrison enjoyed a marriage of heady romance, tempered only by the needs of their children. But on a vacation alone, the couple perishes in a flight over the Grand Canyon. After the funeral, their daughters, Ruthie and Julia, are shocked by the provisions in their will.
Spanning nearly two decades, the sisters' journeys take them from their familiar home in Atlanta to sophisticated bohemian San Francisco, a mountain town in Virginia, the campus of Berkeley, and lofts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As they heal from loss, search for love, and begin careers, their sisterhood, once an oasis, becomes complicated by resentment, anger, and jealousy. It seems as though the echoes of their parents' deaths will never stop reverberating—until another shocking accident changes everything once again.

I hope you join us!

Also: don't forget Friday is the first Friday of September and the First Fresh-Cut Friday. I will have the linky tool up and ready to go around 7:00pm tomorrow night. This is my first linking party so please pardon any imperfections.

I think it will be fun!
