Little Makes, Movies and Updates

Hello Chickie Babies!
I hope you are having a great week. YES?
I am happy to say that I am!
I have made some minor changes and I can see a difference in attitude already.
On my 15 minute break at work I am now taking a walk. What a wonderful
difference that one little change can make.
It clears my head and I feel like I am more focused when I get back to my desk.

I'm still working on this cute little baby blanket and it is coming along nicely.

But, like I usually do, I got inspired to make a super quick project.
I was on Pinterest and saw a couple of cute outfits with big, chunky, gray infinity scarves.
So ....

I had to have one!

Super quick to make, this is just 2 skeins of Vanna's Choice in Taupe.

If you would like to make one and would like more
of the how-toos just click here.

I started reading this... ugh! Sooooooo good.
Can't wait to tell you more.
Check out her website for more details.

Went and saw this Saturday afternoon with my bookclub girls...
You just really need to go see it!
 I LOVED it!
You can watch the trailer here.

I also have my Fresh-Cut Friday post ready to go.

Do you?

What's UP!

It feels like Monday... but it's really Tuesday.
The week is flying by!
I hope you had a great 3 day weekend!
Did you do anything fun?
We were very low-key here.
I watched this oldie....

The acting was okay... comedy was okay...
Sometimes I love to watch these old movies just for the style
factor. This one has tons!
Look at that living room!

What it's about...
When Mike Hagen and Marilla Brown marry after a whirlwind romance on the west coast, they return to New York to find that they don't have much in common. She is a clothing designer who lives in a swanky apartment and whose friends are actors, artists and the like. He is a sports writer who likes to go boxing matches and horse races. They clearly love one another and make every effort to be flexible. When a mobster, whom Mike has been accusing of fixing sports events, decides to go after him he must pretend to be out of town and mayhem ensues.

 Also saw this... FABULOUS!
Loved it!

  What it's about...
Following a mysterious explosion in a busy London market, the police swoop, a suspect is detained, and the country prepares for one of the most high-profile trials in British legal history. Two exceptional lawyers with a romantic history step into a dangerous web of secrets and lies, and when evidence points to a British Secret Service cover up, it's not just their reputations, but their lives that are at stake.

 Color of the Week #7

Here's my color of the week... Maria by Julep.... In person it looks like a foil. Very pretty!

Just a quick reminder... We'll have Fresh-Cut Friday this week. I will have the
linky tool set up and ready to go for Thursday night.

I hope you will join in!

That's it for now...

Old Fashioned Bread Pudding

 SO!

Yes! You are right... it has been almost a week since I last posted.
So sorry.
We are in a crazy busy season here in our little corner of the world. I still miss being involved more in the blog-is-phere, but I'm having to make decisions and sometimes the here and now is more important. Some things are fun and good. Others well ....
Lets just say... "We're building character these days."
With that said....

Last Friday I was able to help with a Dinner and A Movie Event for the ladies of my church. I was in charge of the dessert bar which means that I did not have time to make anything home made. And I really hate that... but oh well! What I ended up doing was purchasing several Cinnamon Strusel Quick Breads from my local Safeway. They were okay.  I did have some left over though. So what do you do with that left over bread?
YOU MAKE BREAD PUDDING!
I went to my mom's old cook book and found this simple recipe.

5 slices day-old bread                                 1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine               3 eggs
1/2 cup moist raisins                                   3 cups milk scalded
1/4 teaspoon salt                                         1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Toast bread and spread with all the butter while hot. Arrange toast in a buttered baking pan. Sprinkle
with raisins. Stir the salt and all but 2 tablespoons of the sugar into the eggs. Add milk and stir to mix well. Pour over the toast and allow to stand for 10 minutes. Press toast lightly down into milk occasionally so that the toast soaks up most of the milk mixture. Mix cinnamon with remaining 2 tablespoons sugar and sprinkle over top. Place dish directly on oven rack. Bake in a moderate oven (350° F)  for about 25 minutes until a pointed knife inserted in center comes our clean and top is an appetizing brown. Serve warm or cold. 5 to 6 servings.

As usual, I did change a few things.

I set aside some of the toasted bread and cubed it, then sprinkled it across the top. Also, because there was already a lot of cinnamon in the bread I just sprinkled sugar across the top.

Look at all that nubby goodness!

Crusty on the outside and moist on the inside!

Simple ingredients combined to make some wonderful comfort food.
I was thinking... what if you did this with pumpkin bread or zucchini bread...
Oh My!
I'll be sharing this yummy recipe for Foodie Friday!

Oh! P.S. I almost forgot to share... the movie was....

 The Inheritance
A 1997 Hallmark movie based on the Novel by Louisa May Alcott

Summary Provided IMDb
At the lush Evenswood estate in Concord, Massachusetts, Edith Adelon, a beautiful orphan, lives as the paid companion to the daughter of the wealthy Hamilton family, although they regard her as one of their own. Years ago, Henry Hamilton saved Edith from an Italian orphanage at the request of his long-deceased brother. Now, Edith is his daughter Amy's prized friend and confidante. As the Hamiltons await a trio of visitors for the annual Greens Cup horse race, Beatrice Hamilton asks for Edith's help in finding a suitable husband for a cousin, Ida Glenshaw, with one of two visiting eligible bachelors. But when it becomes clear that both the young men have affection for Edith and not Ida, jealousy soon develops, leading to malicious conniving and brutal backstabbing. Despite the growing love between Edith and one of the young suitors, because of their conflicting social classes, the couple is reminded time and again that their love can never be. The Inheritance is a story that centers on an innocent young woman's struggle to make sense of her position within the Hamilton household and in society, and the love she feels for her patrons, as well as for a young man she can never marry.

Ladies! This was sooooo good. Just what I needed to sweep me away from the hectic week that I had just spent. It is such a nice clean movie. The home and costumes are so well done. You will love it...
Let me know if you do watch it.

Weekend Wrap Up

Hi Sweet Friends!

It has been a nice weekend here.
Grab a cuppa and join me!
I'll give you a quick run down on everything that went on.
I tried a new french tip technique.
As is my habit, most every other Friday night I do my nails. I'm pretty faithful about it.
If you ever check out my pinterest boards you'll see that I have a huge taste for nail art.
Anyway, I am usually pretty traditional, but I saw this and thought I would give it a go.
I'm not going to lie.... it is pretty simple, but you just need a little practice.
The picture above is my second try. I am pretty happy with the look and I think
I will do it again. The colors are OPI "My Vampire is Buff" and  KISS Nail Art Paint in black.
All you have to do is paint your base color and when it is dry sponge on the tip. I used one of my make up sponges. When that layer is dry apply a nice clear top coat.
Seriously... that's it.

What do you think? Like it? Or do you think it is to trendy for a 50 year old?

Saturday morning we got up and cleaned out the garage.
YUCK! AND Boring!
But of course when it was done it felt really good.

The Hubs took a Truck load to Goodwill. When he came home he brought these!
Yeah! He's pretty sweet that way!

Last week whilst out shopping.... I found this sweet little jewelry box.
It reminds of a tiny little train case that ladies used to take with them to their sleeping cars.
I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it but I knew I loved it and had to have it.
I found the just spot for it... I put all my perfumes in it on my dresser.... And draped my pearls and
rhinestones across the lid.
CUTE!  Now, I'm glad I didn't leave it behind!

HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!
I finished THE afghan! I'll show you more on that later.

Of course, we went to church this morning...
I going to share with you that I am Loving our new pastor!!!
This morning's sermon was on the Passion of Community...
Why do you really need to belong to a Church anyway?!
If you are interested, later this week, you will be able to hear that sermon here.
His previous sermons are already posted, so you can here those if you like.

On the Media and Entertainment Front...
Last weekend was Super Hero, Action Adventure Movie weekend here at the house...
Captain America, The Avengers and Iron Man 1 and 2...
Then Monday we went and saw Iron Man 3 in the theater. (loved it!)

SO! I guess you know what that means....
This weekend... It was Chick Flick time!

First on Deck.... Tender Mercies

A little too long and a little dry... Loved seeing Robert Duvall as this leading character.
Singing and actually writing some of the songs.
I had never seen it before and enjoyed it.

NEXT
The Vow
LOVED IT!
What can I say? Any movie that promotes commitment and forgiveness....
I'm all for.
Tatum Channing is so saweet in this story too.
Bonus points .... It's based on true events!!
THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY STAYED TOGETHER IN REAL LIFE!

 AND Then
 The Prince of Tides
Remind me.... Why was this a hit?
I have to say that it was a beautifully filmed movie. AND the sound track is AWESOME!
But that is where it ends for me.
The idea that somehow bearing your soul to your therapist and then having a huge affair with her while your own marriage is on the rocks will some how save your marriage...
Yeah... I'm not buying it!
I'm just not THAT cosmopolitan.
Buy the sound track... skip the movie!

This afternoon it was...
Corrina, Corrina

I LOVE This movie!!!
I have seen it so many times. And every time I see it playing I watch it again.
Whoopi Goldberg is fantastic and so like-able and Ray Liotta is the perfect grieving widower.
If you haven't seen it.... you should. It will do your heart good!
Another great sound track ... if your into that sort of thing!
And it's vintage sweet!
If you loved The Help.... Then will adore this move!!

So that is my weekend in a nut shell!
I have book reviews that I'm behind on, and Fresh-Cut Friday is this Friday!
Can you believe it! Where did the month go?!
I'll have the linky tool up Thursday as usual.
I hope that you will share a post!
I'm off to patrol the tv guide.... hhmmmm... what's on tonight?
Enjoy your Sunday evening!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Happy Saturday Morning!
Just popping in to tell you about a wonderful movie that I saw last night...
Classic chick flick (if your an old chick anyway) with all your favs from over the pond!

Caution: mild nudity and adult themes... so not for the young chickies...

So six of us saw it last night and 5 said that they LOVED it!!! Only one said that it was "ok".
Shot in India the scenery and photography is beautiful.  The subject matter... well I guess you
could say it it is not only current but relevant as well!

1hr 58min‎‎ - Rated PG-13‎‎ - Comedy/Drama‎
Director: John Madden - Cast: Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Dev Patel

A group of British retirees decide to "outsource" their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

LOVED IT!
Let me know if you did too.

A Mixed Bag...

It was a pretty fun weekend ...
Here's the rundown!

Friday night I did some experimenting with the new nail trends. This was my first try at a reverse, French Manicure. Now, seriously, I would not normally buy these colors. However, I had reward points at Ulta and so I made myself pick out 2 colors that I wouldn't buy under normal circumstances. I'm kind of tickled with the out come... I could totally try something more traditional like nude and black. This is not hard to do. I have the tutorial pinned on my Pinterest board labeled Pretty Peddies and Mannies if you are interested in knowing how.
Anyway, CraZy nails are the trend...

I went to the Arizona Antique show Saturday... Big Bummer! There just wasn't anything inspiring. I was looking for a big vintage sign for the kitchen or something that I just couldn't live without. At least something worth photographing...
Nada, ZIP, Zilch, and a big fat ZERO!

So I thought I would show you this sweet little Avon piece of porcelain that I picked up a few weekends ago. I love it.

Saturday night we went to dinner and a movie. Have you heard of Humble Pie?
If your in Phoenix you need to try it. Click here or on the logo to get the locations and menu.

A cute little place that is hoppin' busy and serves some awesome hand tossed, gourmet pizza.
YUMMY goodness! And not terribly expensive.
BONUS!

Plus, for a pizza joint... they serve pretty good coffee!

Then it was too the movie. We saw The Grey with Liam Neeson (I'm a big fan). It was pretty good. I thought that the plane crash was the most realistic action scene I have ever seen. Not that I have ever been in a plane crash, mind you... I'm just saying... this was scarey!! The rest of the movie was good as well. I would recommend it!

My book club is reading The Great Gatsby this month. So, since I just finished the read, I thought that I would watch the movie... my my! Has it really been almost 40 years since this came out? I had forgotten what a beautiful movie it was.
I did thoroughly enjoy it.

I am looking forward to the new version that is coming out.
What about you?

So that is just about it... Sunday evening is usually quiet for us...
getting ready for the work week and all.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

The Quite Man

What do you get when a hot, red head plays the leading lady and a true, man's man plays the romantic lead?
Two Oscars and Eight nominations! That's what!
One of the first movies actually to be filmed on-site and not on a Hollywood set, John Ford's The Quite Man was not a wanted project by the Movie Giants. He had to cut a deal to make a John Wayne Western first and then was given the financing to make The Quiet Man. It was a huge success, the audiences and critics loved it!
Set in western Ireland and centered in the village of Cong, Technicolor never looked better!
John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara are a great movie match.
Lots of on-screen chemistry here. John Wayne made it a habit of working with actors that he liked. They made several movies together where they were a couple.

Lots of sweet cottages and beautiful Irish scenery.
A must see for the true romantic. I watched this AGAIN and I have to add it

to my list of favs!

I hope you like it to!

~~~REMINDER~~~
Next Friday! October 1st is Fresh Cut Friday.
Go get yourself some flowers and join me back here!
