Tea and Lunch With Jane...

"You must drink tea with us tonight."
Jane Austen -- Sense & Sensibility

This didn't start out as a Jane Austen theme...

But that's how it ended up!

This is where it started... with these pretty little mugs from Home Goods.

Each lady will take one home filled with pretty macaroons.
So I used the colors in the mug to inspire me.

The round topper is a Rachel Ashwell table cloth from Target ... years ago.
The lavender is a flat sheet that I found at Home Goods.

My Grandmothers luncheon plates and my mom's silverware.
White doilies, soft yellow napkins and round, green place mates.

The books I added when I realized that they matched my colors so well.
Nothing matching...
but everything coordinating.

And of course after the books came the next most obvious addition
... our guest of honor!

“I could not tell whether you would be for some meat, or only a dish of tea, after your journey, or else I would have got something ready… . Perhaps you would like some tea, as soon as it can be got.” They both declared they should prefer it to anything.
–Mrs. Price to Fanny and William in Mansfield Park

Shall I pour or will you?

Just Popping In To Say Hi!

I don't know about you... but every year ... just about this time... it feels like someone presses the fast forward button and the year just seems to spin out of control right into the next. AND every year I proclaim that this will not happen again... AND I WILL enjoy the holidays this year!

This year is not an exception to the rule. The only difference is that I have actually gotten a few things done to ease the rush.
I did get the tags done for my little jam jars. (this is the table top part)

These will make sweet little extra gifts for family and friends. If you want the recipe for the jam, click here. It really is pretty simple and fun too.

I'm almost done with my Christmas Cards! YAY!!!!

Nothing super fancy...

Just Sweet and Simple.

I just need some kind of sentiment for the inside.... Any suggestions?

Speaking of Sweet and Simple.....
Just a reminder.... I will be announcing the winner of the Sweet and Simple give away Friday October the 7th. Which just happens to coincide with our Fresh Cut Friday post. It's not to late to sign up for that. Leave me a comment and also if you are a follower or become a follower let me know.(click on the give away image or here to enter the give away) I hope that you will stop by share any pretty flowers or arrangements that you have, but if not come by and see some gorgeous vignettes. The linky tool will be up Thursday night (6th) and stay open for the whole weekend.

I have also been at the sewing machine... I'll be sharing some of those projects soon too.

Have a great day!

Pure Charm!

Today I'm showing off my Grandmother's tablecloth.
I believe this is called tatting. But what ever you call it...
This table cloth is so beautiful. Every inch is covered in hand stitching and is pretty heavy.
I remember one year my aunt had Christmas dinner and put this over red.
It was a stunning table!

I have had it for a long time and never used it. I started thinking that I really wanted to enjoy it. No one ever really sits at this table or sets anything on it so I thought that it would be so pretty to just have it out. If we have dinner in here I'll take it off. I just couldn't bear it if it got stained.
Isn't it incredible!? I am really enjoying it. I'm glad I got it out.
What about you? Do you save things...and then wonder why?

A quick look at the rest of the front room...

Have a great week!

Table Top Tuesday

I'm joining Marty today for Table Top Tuesday. Come on!

This is the pine cabinet in our family room. It stores our TV and various other media matters. It used to be so ugly! We had the Wii, and the DVD player up there. But Hubs got motivated one day and got rid of a bunch of the DVD's that we don't watch anymore. This made it possible to move the DVD player and Wii down into the cabinet.
YAY!

It looks so much nicer now. I'm so glad that he did that!
Thanks Honey!

Hey Marty? Recognize that pretty ginger jar? Isn't it perfect?

Thank you again!!

For better or worse... I'm a bling girl. My husband knows... and reluctantly accepts this. There is no changing it ... This year he hit a total home run.

Yet ANOTHER New Coffee Maker!

How long does your coffee maker last? It seems like if we get 18 months we're doing great! Have they stopped making them to last? My parents have an old Mr. Coffee that is something like 10 years old! And they are MAJOR coffee drinkers. Anyway! We have a new Cuisinart. So far, I am happy with it. I like the 10 cup thermal carafe (which we had, before but was only 8cups) You don't have to worry about the coffee staying hot for hours.

A new coffee maker justifies a new coffee cup. Yes?
I picked this one up at Anthropologie.

Join me for a piece of fake cake (I'm still on my diet) and a fine cup of coffee?
