The Versatility of Dishes

So, do you think that you have to have all matching dishes to create a
beautiful semi-formal table?

You don't! In fact, picking up a few pretty pieces here and there
when you see them, will actually get you a lot of versatility.

It also allows you to work in a few trends without investing a ton
of money into a whole set of dishes that you might end up
quickly getting tired of.

Accessories like chargers and linens also get you some mileage too.

(dang! I wish I would have straightened that knife)

Let me show you how quickly the same dishes are transformed into
a lovely, casual, breakfast table.

All that I changed out were the linens, chargers and crystal.

A pretty juice glass replaces formal crystal.

Here's the dish:
Plates: Debi Lilly Fluer. I found on the clearance shelf at the back of my local Safeway. $1.25 ea
Tea cups: Homer Laughlin Georgian Eggshell with Blue Band. Got these from Replacements.com
Crystal: Versailles (my grandmother)
Floral glasses: Rachel Ashwell from the Target Shabby Chic collection (about 8 years ago)
Silver Coffee Server: Goodwill (practically free)

So that is it for today.
Have a great rest of the week!

Yay! Friday!

Hello all you lovelies!
I'm sorry that I have neglected you.
But don't think that I have not thought of you this week.

A quick thank you everyone that participated in Fresh-Cut Friday!
We had some amazing participants.
If you want to see, all the links are below.
You won't be sorry!

I also wanted to do a quick book review.
If you are looking for a good read... this might be a place to start....
I'm just saying.

From the back of the book:
An unvarnished portrait of a marriage that is both ordinary and extraordinary, Dancing on Broken Glass takes readers on an unforgettable journey of the heart.

Lucy Houston and Mickey Chandler probably shouldn’t have fallen in love, let alone gotten married. They’re both plagued with faulty genes—he has bipolar disorder; she, a ravaging family history of breast cancer. But when their paths cross on the night of Lucy’s twenty-first birthday, sparks fly, and there’s no denying their chemistry.

Cautious every step of the way, they are determined to make their relationship work—and they put their commitment in writing. Mickey will take his medication. Lucy won’t blame him for what is beyond his control. He promises honesty. She promises patience. Like any marriage, there are good days and bad days—and some very bad days. In dealing with their unique challenges, they make the heartbreaking decision not to have children. But when Lucy shows up for a routine physical just shy of their eleventh anniversary, she gets an impossible surprise that changes everything. Everything. Suddenly, all their rules are thrown out the window, and the two of them must redefine what love really is.

My Take:  I loved the the book. I loved Lucy. I was totally in, until the end of the story.
The last chapters actually made me SOB! I was so emotional drained by the time I
reached the last 2 chapters that I think I just felt like I was done. The closing chapters
are all about Micky, and honestly I just felt that it was to far fetched and not really believable.

That aside, some of the writing is absolutly beautiful. The author also takes on some
very heady real life issues in meaningful ways. It was food for some amazing conversation
for book club.

And that, my friends, is a good thing!

I'm off to have a great weekend.
I hope you are too!

Blue in the Red and Yellow Room

 I'm so tickeled!
I just picked up our new dining room chairs yesterday.
I had been looking for a LONG time.

I finally found some... and they are totally not what I would have thought
I wanted.
Well not TOTALLY....
I love the shape of them.

The color was the surprise.  They are BLUE!
How on earth did I end up with blue in my Red and Yellow living room?

Well look closely my friends.  See that right there?
It is a pop of blue.

The same shade of neutral blue!

So it works!
And I'm just as pleased as can be!

I got them here.

A Girly Girl Weekend!

Such a VERY Fun weekend!
Saturday was a vintage themed birthday party for my sweet friend CeeKay from Thinking of Home
It was such a beautiful day and the company was superb!

You really need to see more! The decor was all of her  precious momentos.
Stop by and see her.
Make sure you wish her Happy Birthday!

Sunday... well that was a special day.

Wedding dress shopping.  Sigh....

It really has all the feel of a rite of passage.
So touching and sentimental.
I can't really even express what a joy it is to help
a beautiful young woman transition to the next part
of her life.

Sunday night we celebrated Valentine's Day at The Keg.
A yummy, medium priced steakhouse.

This is my 6oz steak....

 This is Husband's 20oz steak.
I just had to share that. I thought it was kind of funny.

So that is the weekend wrap up.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

 Oh! AND P.S.
Yes! There is a DRESS!

 Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
