Book Review - The Fault In Our Stars

January's bookclub selection was:

 The Fault In Our Stars
                                                             by John Green

Summary from the back of the book:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything by terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green's most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

SO! Here is what I thought.

I thought that it was REALLY beautifully written in terms of picturesque illustration. I mean, I
really want to go have dinner in Amsterdam now. :)
(you'll understand if you read the story, and if not, you'll have to read it
to find out what I mean)
I thought that it was enlightening to help understand how a very intelligent teen with a long term fatal disease might handle life, family and love.

BUT that is just about all the good I could find.
There were a lot of medical inconsistencies,  also a lot of things that just didn't make
logical sense in terms of their travel arrangements.

But the biggest annoyance was the general overall attitude toward people that believe
in God or an afterlife. There were mocking tones and down right blasphemous illustrations
about "the literal heart of Jesus"  over and over. The only believers in the story
were made out to be out-of-touch, uninformed losers.

For example, here's a quote from Hazel (main character) after Gus (her true love) tells her that he absolutely believes in an after life. Or,  at least "Something" after life.

"Really" I asked. I was surprised. I'd always associated belief in heaven with, frankly, a kind
of intellectual disengagement. But Gus wasn't dumb."

I get it. We, the believing, are old-school and a dying breed... but really?

I don't know. I just couldn't get over it.

Tell me. Did you LOVE this best selling block buster?
It left me wanting.

Monday's Manicure.... a little late

Hi my polished friends!

Just popping in to show you this weeks mani.
Sorry to be so late! eeeek! Is it Wednesday already?
Where does the week go?

This weeks color is by OPI ...Incognito In Sausalito
It is from the San Francisco collection a couple of years ago.
It looks black, but its actually a very, very, very, dark navy blue.

While I like it.... I'm not looking forward to the removal.
These types of colors have a tendency to stain. Yuck!

Any helpful types out there?

So I hope you have a great week.
I'm working on a couple of book reviews and another craft project.

Talk to you soon!

A Fun Little Crochet Coin Purse

Hi ya!
Just popping in to show you this little project that I finished.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.
But it sure is cute.

The written instructions that I used are here.
There is also a video that makes the project very easy.
That is here.

Love the vintage-esk clasp. They have a lovely variety at Hobby Lobby.

I love the little shells to.

Anyway! That's all I have for you today.
Have a great week!

... grass withers and flowers fade

You all know that I love flowers.
No, I really, really love them!
And, I think that you have probably figured out that I love
to photograph them.
They are simple, humble, romantic, and beautiful.

Something placed here just for our enjoyment.
God did that, you know? Just for you and me.

I just kept thinking about that.

And then when I was editing my photos from my last
flower/photo shoot, I just kept thinking of the same
verse in the bible over and over.

Isaiah 40:8 esv
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our
God with stand forever.

I couldn't help but think that His word is so much more beautiful, romantic, poetic, complicated,
simple and, more importantly, available than our blogs, phones, iPad's, T.V.'s and computers.

It is a program that never needs an update, upgrade or reboot, even though we might.
Think about it.

I'm just saying...
Have a wonderful weekend!

Tulips on Saturday

So ... on Wednesday I bought some lovely tulips at Safeway. Here it is Saturday
and I'm still loving having them on the dinning room table.
So happy that I bought two bunches!

As you can see all of Christmas is put away and we are in full gear
for the new year. I'm always sad to see it go. Christmas is my Favorite!

I'm not making any great New Year resolutions. I've thought about it, a lot,
and I'm just really wanting to be a better wife, mom, daughter and sister.
I don't exactly want to be so much thinner as more healthy.
I don't really want to read the bible in a year, but actually work on
my relationship with my Savior.
I think if I can accomplish that, I'll be happy!

I have a few projects that I am working on. Mostly small, easy, quick projects.
You know I love the easy stuff.
We have some HUGE projects to do on the house.
Paint (exterior)
Roof repair (hopefully not a new roof)

What about you?
Any big plans?
