Aren't these gorgeous? I wish you could smell them!

They are called Indian Femma.
A bright orange rose with round petals.

I paired them with dyed sunflowers.
These are yellow dyed red. Again! Gorgeous!

A Little Care Package

Sweet Daughter won't be home for Thanksgiving. It will leave a big hole at our table Thanksgiving Day. I know she is working hard and on a very limited budget.
I also know that
her apartment is cute, but there are no extra $$ for decorating.

The other challenge is space and the idea that it all has to be moved back here in less than 3 years now. ( yup! I'm counting the months) So, I thought that I would send her a little care package. All mostly consumable stuff. An inexpensive fall wreath. A yummy smelling Pumpkin Pie Spice candle, fall tea towels, Thanksgiving napkins and finally homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Here's the recipe for the cookies:

• 1tsp baking soda
• 3 cups flour
• 1tsp salt
• 1tsp cinnamon

Combine and set aside.

• 2 sticks butter, (room temp)
• 3/4 cup white sugar
• 3/4 cup brown sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1tsp vanilla

In a large mixing bowl cream butter. Add sugars, beat until smooth. Add vanilla and eggs. Beat until creamy smooth.

• 6oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 6oz white chocolate chips

Begin to add flour mixture, a little at a time to the sugar mixture. Continue to beat and add until completely combined. Fold in chips.

I used an ice cream scoop and placed on an ungreased cookie pan. Bake for about 15 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven.

Book Review ~ Murder On The Orient Express

I thought that I would give a quick update on the Book Club. I have been a little busy lately and I have not updated our books. Well here goes!

Our November Book Selection:
Left To Tell
by Immaculee Ilibagiza

I am really looking forward to this one! It has been on my reading list for some time. It is an Autobiography of a young woman that survives the Rwandan Holocaust. If you want to join in, I will review the book the week of Thanksgiving. I would love to hear what you have to say.

Our October Book Selection:
Murder On The Orient Express
by Agatha Christie

This was a fun read for the month of Halloween. Gruesome murder, intrigue, mystery...
I enjoyed this book. It was a fast read. I am not usually one to pick a book up like this, but we do try to read things that are out of the norm. I would recommend it. Only slightly predictable. 7 out of 8 girlfriends would recommend this book.
I think I will try to rent the 1974 movie for Halloween night.

This was the book selection for September...
Sorry! Didn't like it! Wouldn't recommend it. Only one girlfriend out of 8 liked this one.

I felt that the author failed to develop the characters, story line and also made broad generalizations about groups of people.

Heart of the Home Party!

Welcome to my Kozy Kountry Kitchen!

Wednesday the 13th is the Heart of the Home party at Shelia's blog NoteSongs. I will be joining her for all the fun tours. Make sure you head over and see all of the beautiful kitchens.

No fancy, schmancy counter tops or appliances. Just simple.

See the backsplash? Looks like tile right? It's not... It is a faux finish... One of the things that I love about my little kitchen...

These cabinets are one of the things that sold me on the kitchen 7 years ago when I bought the home.

The house was built over 15 years ago and the kitchen definitely needs some updates, but I still love it the way it is. I know that some of the pros out there will say that there is to much on top of my cabinets ... but I have collected these family items over decades.

If I had all the money in the world what would I change?

I would have white cabinets and a mix of marble and wood counter tops. An apron skirt sink. That's it. Oh, maybe a little bigger foot print and more cabinet space.

I would still have all the clutter... I can't help it... I love it! It reminds me of all the wonderful cooks in my family. All the wonderful holidays and family dinners...
And YES! I would still have all white appliances! How OLD FASHION!

What's on the range? A big pot of Chili! Perfect for a cooler day.

I even keep a glass right by the sink. We still drink sink water every now and then (gasp!)

It is so true! Your kitchen really is the heart of the home. Make sure your kitchen reflects you more than a magazine or "style". Give it more heart than style.
