Anyone can grow into something beautiful....
Do you love that? I do!
And the best part is that it's true!
Last month's book club selection was
The Language of Flowers
by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
Seriously? The cover called me!
From the back of the book:
The Victorian language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions: honeysuckle for devotion, asters for patience, and red roses for love. But for Victoria Jones, it's been more useful in communicating mistrust and solitude. After a childhood spent in the foster-care system, she is unable to get close to anybody, and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their meanings. Now eighteen and emancipated from the system with nowhere to go, Victoria realizes she had a gift for helping others through the flowers she chooses for them. But an unexpected encounter with a mysterious stranger has her questioning what's been missing in her life. And when she's forced to confront a painful secret from her past, she must decide whether it's worth risking everything for a second chance at happiness.
Here's my take:
I didn't enjoy the book as much as I had hoped I would. And truthfully, I go back and forth on my final judgment. It was an "okay" book. I found the story to be sad and
depressing. There is a hopeful ending but you really have to slog through some story line
that portrays some very weak characters and really stupid choices. But then, I also realize that these foster kids with separation and abandonment disorders (not issues! true disorders) enter our society everyday and have to learn to live and be a part of society. So in that regard I found the book enlightening.
The ladies in the book club were also half and half. So you may just have to read it and decide for yourself.
As far as content:
One f-bomb in the whole book, and the story line is very clean while still being real to the situation.

I've Been Dreaming.....
When I was little...
I always dreamed ...
That I would have a sweet little vanity table.
Nothing over the top like these.
Can you imagine? (sigh)
More like this....

Just random little things .....
You know.... some weekends are just better than others.
These are just some little random things that
made my weekend delightful.
Went to Trader Joe's and got some of the most fragrant Lilacs.
Went to Hobby Lobby and the signs and nobs were
on sale. I will end up hanging the "EAT"
sign in the kitchen. (obviously)
The Hot and Cold knobs are part of a little unfinished project that
I plan on sharing later. But the little checked knobs
were a complete inspiration.
Why did I not do this before?
Before... plane white knobs.
After!
So simple!
Pretty Mother's day flowers from my girl. These arrived late Saturday afternoon.
And spent Sunday with my mom and daughter.
FUN!
And finally ...
A sneak peak at my dress for "THE" wedding.
EEEEEEEEEK!
I have to loose 15 more pounds.
But that's for another weekend!
Enjoy your week!

This.... Then That
This is what it was....
And now this is what it is!
I have a nasty habit of "just running in to Goodwill" on my lunch hour.
Somedays, I seriously find nothing.
But then sometimes I find a little something so worth the stop.
This is what I found today.
A silver plate cake stand. Only $5.99.
I didn't even polish it! Just cleaned it up.
I added my little vignette and put a glass cover on it.
I'll be joining Marty for Inspire Me Tuesday.

May's Fresh-Cut Friday
Hello! And welcome to this edition of Fresh-cut Friday my lovely friends!
Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis)
meaning: Return of happiness
I have to say that this month's FCF selection is one of my all time favorites.
Unfortunately, I live in a desert! SO Lily of the Vally is no where to be found.
I even tried to order some from the local florist.... She just gave me "the stare".
You know the look... the one that communicates " are you an idiot"?
It's okay though. My brother brought me these gorgeous tulips on Easter Sunday.
I thought they were pretty and I loved it that my brother brought them!
They lasted well over a week.
Did you have any floral arrangements on Easter?
I hope you did and I hope you will join in and share your post
