OOOOOH! To my sweet reading friends.... THIS WAS SOOOOOO GOOD!
All the girls in the book club gave it 2 thumbs up. It was the perfect choice for our October meeting.
All based on historical facts, this story read like the best suspense novel ever!
Just enough gore that you know what happened but a lot is left to the imagination, which I personally is a sign of a really good writer.
If you end up reading it or have read it... Let me know.
I would love to hear your thoughts!
From the Back of the book:
Their
fates were linked by the magical Chicago World’s Fair of 1893,
nicknamed the “White City” for its majestic beauty. Architect
Daniel Burnham built it; serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes used it to lure
victims to his World’s Fair Hotel, designed for murder. Both men
left behind them a powerful legacy, one of brilliance and energy, the
other of sorrow and darkness.
Here, then, is your ticket to the greatest fair in history—a place
where incredible dreams came to life alongside darkest nightmares.
I'm joining in for Literary Friday. Go see Ricki Jill for more great reading selections!

Its sounds so good I just bought it online!
Sounds good. I'm intrigued. And jealous 'cause I need a book club.
Liz, I have been wanting to read this for such a long time. I read Larson's In The Garden of Beasts, and wow, it was amazing! I know y'all enjoyed your book club discussion about it. I'm going to make a point to read it in 2013, but I hope that the serial killer doesn't scare me, LOL!
THanks so much for linking-up!!!

Now, you know I loved the Ladybug Farm books that you got me hooked on and now I am reading a new series by the same author under another name. That said...I tried to read this book, I'm in Chicago and know a lot about Burnham, but I just couldn't get into it. I was half through and put it down. It was really well written but since it was several years ago, I can't pinpoint why I really didn't care for it. From your book club's response and the comments, I seem to be in the minority!!
XO,
Jane
This sounds great, Liz! I'd have to read it during the day though. If I read it at night it would keep me awake ALL night long! LOL!
I have looked at that book several times to read but the whole serial killer aspect of it stopped me from reading it.
I may give it another look.
Cathy
I loved this book as well. Though a bit gruesome in subject matter, the history of that World' Fair was fascinating as well. Glad you enjoyed it. Read his In The Garden of Beasts as well.
