I am so glad your here.
It's hotter than the hinges on the gates of Hell here and truthfully my garden is TOAST! What does yours look like right about now? Well I don't know about you but I was happy to bring a bloom or two in to the house!

As promised I am bringing you the flower of the month.
Gladiolus are the flower chosen for August. I have to tell ya, I don't think that I would have ever bought these unless I was doing a post about them. I typically would only think of these for an arrangement for a funeral...

But as it turns out I really kind of like them. Graceful and colorful these long stemmed beauties lasted almost 10 days before completely giving out. And while they look like a fragrant bloom... they had no fragrance what-so-ever. That may be because they came from a florist.
Gladiolus got its meaning from the Latin word that means sword, gladiolus represented Roman gladiators. Gladiolus symbolizes strength of character.
Send a bouquet of gladiolus as a token of respect to a person whose character you admire.

Hi Liz, your Gladiolus are lovely! The picture with the lamp is truly stunning.
I am joining you for the first time...so excited. Thank you for hosting. So happy I found this linky as I adore flowers.

Hi Liz,
Can you believe it, I was going to make a post about gladiolus today as well. I have a few blooming in my garden. They are yellow with a bit of red in the middle. Very pretty. But, unfortunately, I didn't manage to take nice pictures.
I love your pictures! And I enjoyed learning about the origins of gladiolus' name. Thank you for hosting this beautiful party and congrats on its birthday!
Stopping by for the first time and just love your beautiful post! Glads are special to me because I have an August birthday! Your photos are lovely!
Kindly, Lorraine
Hi Liz, your gladiolus are simply beautiful. They bring joy and gladness to a room. I love the colors especially. Thanks for sharing!
Paula
Your Glads are so pretty. Thanks for sharing. None here, and forgot to pick some up at the grocery. I always enjoy having a vase of them this time of the year.
Your gladiolas are gorgeous!! I never realized that about the name, but it sure makes sense.
Glads make me think of one of our favorite Italian restaurants. They arrange white gladiolas by the bucketfull down a long counter, with pocket lights aimed down on them. They just glow. Oh my gosh, so stunning.
Love gladdys, they always remind me of Dame Edna!
I like the colour of the gladiolus you shared today, very understated and serene.
Many thanks for hosting and congrats on your 1st Anniversary of FCF.
Maggie
Wonderful flower pictures! Thank you for your invitation.
Glorious glads! Yours are beautiful! Mom had glads all over her garden. I have a few but they have been done blooming for some time now. They do make gorgeous bouquets. Thanks for the history and info about them.
*hugs*deb

Oh Liz!! Happy Anniversary...time does fly by.
What a beautiful post you have to celebrate the event. Even though I'm not that fond of gladiolus you've made them look spectacular in your photographs.
I confess to cheating with my flowers this months but I so wanted to participate since you had sent me the email reminder.
I'm off now to view that others wonderful bouquets. Hugs...

Your glads are beautiful Liz! I love them and usually pick them up when they're on sale at the store-enjoy:@)
Happy Birthday Fresh Cut Friday! Hope you have many many more. Liz, the Glad's re beautiful. I know what you mean when they are identified as a funeral flower. Hard to see them any other way. But you showed them off to make them a beautiful flower for the home. Very pretty and I love that tall lamp!
I hinted all I could, but no flowers here this month. I love glads in the yard...but like you, not so much in the house. They are beautiful flowers tho!
Hey, Liz. Your glads are simply stunning. I will be linking up on Monday because we are going out of town for a quick trip, and i want to enjoy my arrangement next week!
Thanks so much for hosting!
xoxoxo,
Ricki Jill
Liz, I love the green color of your Gladiolus. I do like the flower and it can make quite the statement. Sorry I'm late to join up, just no flowers and the yard is looking pretty sad. I did find a couple of blooms. Hugs, Marty
Hi Liz! I have always loved glads! I love the variety of colors, and they're so dramatically different. They do last a long time! Lovely party!
Happy Birthday to Fresh Cut Friday!
I love your post about the Gladiolus. I always thought of them as funeral flowers until I spent time in England and found them to be part of every English Cottage Garden. I love them. They are so tall and regal. Your information is so interesting...
strength of character!
Thank you so much for hosting this lovely party.
Magical arrangement!
I had this post ready to link last month and forgot...oops! Hope you don't mind me joining in this month even though it's WAY too hot for lilacs or anything else in my garden right now!
Sooo pretty! I love glads. :)
Those yellowy-green ones are AMAZING.
Happy FCF!!!
Pretty glads...signs of August!
have a great weekend,
Rene
I linked up! Thanks again for hosting, Liz :D
Well I"m late for the party but I made it! We just had a birthday party for my mother and had a large bouquet on her table of gladioluses. Yours were a beautiful color! I think they are quite grand! I'm going to add a picture of my Mom's to my post! Thanks for having the party!
