One day shortly after my husband and I were married, he came home with this cute little shelf. He proceeded to tell me that he had made it when he was 16 and that his mom had been saving it in the attic for years. She sent it home to see if I wanted it.... well duh! Of course I would want it. I'm so glad she saved it!
It hangs proudly in our family room and is laden heavily with family history.
Look at those cute little mice admiring her beauty. :) They were in the nick knack cabinet at my great grandmothers house. They are from the 50's.
Some little Dutch Dairy men.... also from the fifties..... I know the shelf looks dusty but it isn't. It actually needs to be oiled. The varnish is getting old and dull so when it is dry it looks dusty.
Really!
At least that's the story I'm rolling with! :)

The picture in the back is of my Mom on my grandfather's shoulders. Isn't this just the most precious picture. It is one of my all time favorites. The little round picture is my Mom holding my older brother. (trust me...it was a fleeting moment)
My Great Grandmother's thimble.

Oh, your little shelf is precious....and sweet memories on it!
I am hoping to go on the 30th...but it will depend on how I am feeling. Too far away to know right now!
What a treasure! Your hubby was one talented teen! It was so great of his Mom to save it. I have a feeling she knew his future wife would love it.:)
Hi Liz - Thanks for visiting. Oh, I was the one that chose not to make the trip. :) I would have been better under different conditions. Our good weather fizzled out - It was cool and rained all day today.
Have a great week.
Yes, fine indeed.
Your treasures are wonderful. Of all the things I have (and I am quite a collector) the things that mean the most to me are the ones that belonged to my family. It is a wonderful way to feel connected to those who are gone. I love your great grandmother's thimble. That is awesome! Twyla
