Doll in a Dome

She was in my Grandmothers guest room forever.
Her mother (My Great Grandma) made
these wedding dolls for both of her daughters in the fifties.
I think it was a crafting trend at the time but I'm not really sure.

I remember playing with her when I was a little girl. I had to sneak
though, because she wasn't for playing.
Just admiring!

She crocheted the little hat and dress....

My Grandmother's was blond and blue eyed. My Great Aunt's was
light brunette and blue eyed. I wonder if her granddaughter has hers?

I don't think I have ever seen these in the antique stores before. Has anyone else seen or inherited one? I think that she is lovely!

She is beautiful, what a treasure! I don't have one, but I do have a little chicken pin cushion my great grandmother made with a place for a thimble. I treasure it too.

I do remember these dolls. And I had a doll that someone made me from our church and she had crocheted clothes as well. Cannot believe how old yours is! Amazing. Mine was played with and played with! Great story! Enjoy your day!

I remember those dolls. My aunt used to make them. I thought they were so beautiful. How lucky you are to have this family treasure.

What a pretty doll. LOL you're right, this kind of doll is certainly for admiration only. And how sweet this is - to be able to have something passed down to you from your very grandma. Now, that doll is older than you! :-)

What a precious treasure. I'm so glad you have her to cherish now. I don't believe I've ever seen one and I go to A LOT of antique stores. I am going to be on the lookout now. Twyla

Oh my gosh!! I love it! My grandma had a special baby doll with crocheted clothes and I can still remember every detail of her pink and white dress. I asked if I could take it home one time and she said no, it had to stay at her house in her special drawer - I think that was the only time she ever told me no and I couldn't believe it!

That post was just beyond adorable - love it!

Ooo Liz she is exquisite! Such intricate crochet. What a treasure.

I'm not sure, but I *think* she may be a Lingerie Lou doll. I have one too, but she doesn't have a special dress or memories like yours. ;-P

Is she a Giny doll? Check to see if she is stamped with any writing on her. I had a Giny doll when I was a child that looked very much like yours, her eyes moved and each Christmas my mother would buy her a new outfit and new hair...mine had hair that was glued on I think.

What a lovely wedding outfit she made for her. I have several of these kind of dolls in different outfits, and I think one of them might even have a crocheted wedding dress, but not as pretty or in as good condition as yours. How wonderful that you have kept it. laurie
