Mary Carol Garity ~ Part 3 of 3

Okay... I think I have stretched this subject just about as far as I can. (lol)
Like so many other homeowners I am a huge fan of Mary Carol Garrity's designs.

So when my cousin asked what I wanted to do while in KC.... I said
"Take me to Nell Hill's!"

We went to all three locations! Two in Atchison Kansas and one in Kansas City Missouri. I have shared the pictures from Garrity's and Nell Hill's, both in Atchison.

When we went to the location in KC I kind of figured that it would be more of the same and in part it was. But this location is larger and really more of a true design center, I would say. But the VERY BEST part of this location....

Is that MCG works there! Everyday!

We were coming up the stairs and I turned around and saw this pretty, petite, little brunette and then I looked again... "Excuse me... Are you Mary Carol Garrity"? said I
"Why, yes I am!" said she with a big, warm, Midwestern smile. She held out her hand and greeted me as if I was at her front door!
We went on to have a full conversation about what her future plans were in the stores and how long she has been in business (almost 30 years). She asked me all kinds of questions and actually thanked me!

So I bought the only book that I don't have and she kindly autographed it!

So there you have it. My Mary Carol Garrity story. And I'm stickin' to it!

One last thing that I wanted to share. It occurred to me that a beautiful space is just space if you don't fill it with hospitality.

Five years ago, my mom and I made a spur of the moment trip to Atchison the weekend before Thanksgiving, just to go to Nell Hill's. (MC was there that day too!) We were both completely blown away, not just by the beautiful stores, but by the crowds. There was a steady line of people, waiting to simply get in the front door because there wasn't room for everyone at once, and when you did get in you just sort of surged along with the crowd in whatever direction it was going. If you wanted something, you had to pick it up immediately because there was no turning around!

Anyhow, we would both love to go back, but it just is not in the budget right now, so I wanted to say thank you for the tour and for bringing back such wonderful memories.

I also must apologize for such a long comment on my very first visit to your lovely blog! This is quite out of character for me.
