Pure Charm!



Today I'm showing off my Grandmother's tablecloth.
I believe this is called tatting. But what ever you call it...
This table cloth is so beautiful. Every inch is covered in hand stitching and is pretty heavy. I remember one year my aunt had Christmas dinner and put this over red.
It was a stunning table!
I have had it for a long time and never used it. I started thinking that I really wanted to enjoy it. No one ever really sits at this table or sets anything on it so I thought that it would be so pretty to just have it out. If we have dinner in here I'll take it off. I just couldn't bear it if it got stained.
Isn't it incredible!? I am really enjoying it. I'm glad I got it out.
What about you? Do you save things...and then wonder why?

    Your Grandmothers tablecloth is truly stunning. I love antique linens and do try to use them but for whatever reason I also will save things and not enjoy them as much as really I should. I think we all have a tendency to do this...we put things away to protect them, but it doesn't do anyone any good! I have a crocheted tablecloth that my Great Grandma did and use it on occasion. It's so special to me. Your home is so pretty. I LOVE that first photo with the tiered dish atop the table.

    Beautiful tablecloth. I have my mom's vintage cloth. I do use it occasionally. bTW, did you have those chairs in the LR? The red ones...I don't remember them....

    That is some very pretty lace. I like to use our collection of antique quilts during the winter. I cant stand to just stick in the blanket chest. Thank You for stopping by this evening.......Julian

    Beautiful linen piece! I do love linens but use all that I have. It may be because I don't have any heirlooms handed down just things I find at yard sales and such.

    Oh My Goodness! Your tablecloth is "PRICELESS" and YES you were right to take it out and show it off! I also have treasures buried away in trunks. BUT I've started showing them off here and there. Like you I don't want them to get stained. Your home is beautiful, your decor is SO Pretty!

    What gorgeous table linens, my friend! Your table cloth and napkins are truly a precious treasure since they belonged to your grandmother! I'm not sure it that would be considered tatting or not...but like you...whatever they call this type of lace...I think it's gorgeous! I also love the three tiered pedestal with all the beautiful shells...lovely! Thank you for sharing your pretties with us today, my friend! This was such a treat!!!

    PS...I tend to "save" my pretties as well but I'm really trying to use them more! It's hard to enjoy something when it's just stored away!

    I save things all the time! And for years even! It makes it that much sweeter when you find a use for them, or pull them out for special occasions, your lace is gorgeous, and such a special piece too. Wonderful post, tami

    Oh, how beautiful! I have a lovely cocktail ring that was my Great Grandmother's. I have NEVER worn it out, because I'm afraid I'll lose it somehow (I don't know how, my other rings aren't flying off my fingers lol). Maybe it's time to get Grandma Faye's old ring out...
