Let's Have a Cupa Tea and Talk a Little Jane Austen

Sense and Sensibility

Can I just say, I think that this is my new favorite! I have never read any of the Jane Austen stories. But the character development and the story line are so rich and colorful that I absolutely fell in love with her. The use of our language is an education in and of itself. I have watched several of the movies that have been made from her novels and truly enjoyed them, but once you read the book you realize how wonderful reading a lovely story can be.

Every girl should read Sense and Sensibility!

  1. Sense and Sensibility was an Austen family favourite. If you liked Sense and Sensibility I think you will probably be totally taken with Pride and Prejudice. All of Austen's works are delightful...it's always wonderful to learn that someone else has become a Jane fan!

  2. A little Jane "tid bit" - she wrote all of her books on tiny pieces of paper that she hand bound; her family knew that she was writing but she would cover her work if anyone came into the room and wanted people to think she was simply tending to correspondence. When first published the books were printed with the author as "By a Lady" as Jane valued her privacy. She did change her mind as her later books were published. Makes them all the more "precious" in my view.

  3. I love her style, so real and fresh and probably considered outspoken for her time. I love all her books, but I have to say that Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite. I saw two movie versions of this one and didn't like the one, but the one with Colin Firth is pretty good. And watching Colin Firth isn't such a bad idea anyhow.

  6. My absolute favorite movie is Sense and Sensibility! I can watch it over and over again and still cry like it was the first time I'm seeing it!! My favorite scene is where everyone is crying over Willoby (spelling???) Leaving and Eleanor finally sitting down on the steps with the cup of tea. I have seen quite a few of her movies and read some of the books and love them all!

  7. I am reading Sense and Sensibility right now and I am loving it. The language is beautiful and you get transported to a different time. I am reading through Daily Lit so it is free and I can read as fast as I want or as slow as I want.

  13. I agree with Sherry Lee -- Pride and Prejudice is her very best. My husband bought me the entire selection of Jane Austen books and videos for Christmas -- what a perfect gift. Enjoy. Joanne ~~ glamourgirljoanne@yahoo.com

  14. I agree. S & S just aired on our PBS channel. I had seen Pride and Prejudice but not this one. It was shorter but still full of rich, gracious living.
    Thanks for the tea, Candy
